Mycoon Cattery first came into existence in l977 with the purchase of a tortiseshell Maine Coon Cat, hence the name MYCOON. We showed and bred Maine Coons for four years. In 1979, the March edition on Cats Magazine was delivered to my home and there was an article about the Scandinavian relative of th e Maine Coon Cat...............the Norwegian Forest Cat. It described this wonderful cat and then told how there was no interest in the U.S.A. in this particular breed. Well, that gave me a challenge! I immediately sat down and wrote a letter to the Breed secretary for the Norwegian Forest Cat asking how I could purchase a pair or possible make a trade with a pair of Maine Coons. I later found out that quarrantine laws in Norway would not allow this trade to happen. I went to a post office that was open 24 hours and mailed my letter. A breeding pair was arranged for me to purchase. A brown classic tabby male from Pans cattery owned by Elsa Nylund and a black and white bicolor female from Mjavo cattery owned by Solveig Stenersrod. Both breeders agreed to have the pair live together for three months in Norway to insure compatibility. On November 1st 1979, Pan's Tigris and Mjavo's Sala Palmer landed on Amercian soil. Our cats live with three dogs (Golden Retriever and 2 Toy Fox Terriers), birds, fish and my two daughters. They are raised underfoot and played with by many and are very socilaized. They are placed with new owners by reservation and do not leave our household until they are 12 weeks of age. We provide a written health guarantee for known congenital and hereditary defects, age appropriate vaccinations ( feline upper respiratory complex and leukemia), registration and pedigree. We maintain a closed cattery and all adults have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV We have a parasite free cattery as well. Shipping is additonal and we will ship domestically and internationally. |
